Let Me be your shelter Harper stood up from where she knelt on the concrete floor of the warehouse. The corner held a few old mattresses as well as some blankets that she had scrounged up. The place hadn’t been very homey before. It was mostly just a lab where the dealers made and sold Red Ice. The warehouse was a convenient place for them to work, off the radar of the police and any wanderer pedestrians who might report them. However, there was no support for the people once the drugs entered their system. When Harper had arrived at the warehouse, she had seen several people passed out on the floor. No one paid them any mind and this seemed to be a regular occurence. Harper had decided to set up shop here and help out. She provided a place for users to sleep off their high. In time, she began taking care of people going through withdrawal symptoms or suffering from an overdose. She didn’t have any medical skills, but she could at least make them more comfortable. Now just one of the mattresses was occupied. A young man, probably too young to be involved in all this, was passed out cold. Just a short time ago he had been ranting and raving, too high on the stuff to sit still for a moment, but he must have tired himself out. Just then, the large door to the warehouse creaked open, letting in a draft of cold air. Harper tucked the blanket tighter around the boy to keep him warm before turning to see who had arrived. Likely just another one of the usual customers picking up their supply, but Harper liked to see new faces around every once in a while. There was some sort of commotion between the new arrival and the dealers standing around the front door. Harper brushed her hands off on her pants and walked over to see what was happening. “Hey, what’s going on? Anything I can help with?"

"Listen, this is complete bullshit. I deal in so much money in case you forgot and I'm getting paid next to nothing." Eliza was pissed. They were yelling at her about using too much of the supply. In all honesty, yes, she was probably using too much of it. She'd lost twenty pounds since she was on it and the dark circles were under her eyes. But she spent all day dealing while she wasn't getting a big enough cut. She deserved more, so she took it on herself to use her supply. What was wrong with that.
She wasn't a child. The last thing she needed was a lecture. We're gonna kill you blah blah blah. Eliza heard it a million times before. She wasn't threatened by the majority of the men that ran this joint. Instead, she demanded that she got more. She was a top gun now, working at the warehouse. Though she was still new, she deserved better than what they were giving her. Elizabeth had police connections after all. Hell, even some of her old colleagues were her customers. It took a lot of balls to deal to police, but she did it anyways. She knew the kind of people they were and they were definitely users.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a thing. A woman who looked to appear normal, but then she saw the circle on the side of her head. "Oh hell no. You don't have one of those things working for you." Eliza was disgusted. She hated those things. They killed her family. They weren't human no matter how hard some people could convince her. The thing spoke to her. "Get the hell out of here before I break you." She was demanding of the android. The woman had no intention of that thing sticking around.

Let Me be your shelter When Harper approached, the conversation between the new arrival and the Red Ice dealers was starting to get heated. Apparently the new girl was one of their dealers as well, though Harper had never seen her around. To be fair, she didn’t pay much attention if her help was required, so she could’ve easily missed her. She gave the woman a placating smile and opened her mouth to introduce herself when she saw the woman’s eyes focus in on the blue LED on Harper’s temple. The look she gave the android was nothing short of hate. Harper flinched back just a little, unused to such attention. Of course, she knew some people hated androids and treated them badly, but that had never happened to her. She wasn’t out on her own much before and when she did leave the house, she had little children with her. People were more apt to keep their negativity to themselves with kids present.“No need for threats,” Harper said, holding her hands up to show the woman that she wouldn’t hurt her. “I don’t work for them.” Technically, that was true. The dealers had been obviously cautious when she first showed up, but she never bothered them. They let her stay when they realized she was willing to help take care of their customers. It was good for business in their minds. She would nurse the addicts back to health, who would then go right back to their old ways and buy more Red Ice. It was a win-win situation. Harper stayed out of their way, and they mostly ignored her. “I just help out around here. My name is Harper. Maybe I could help you, too?” Harper’s LED flickered yellow briefly as she scanned the woman, noting the signs of distress in her physical appearance. It looked like she wasn’t just a dealer, but a user as well. Perhaps this woman did need her assistance after all.

Elizabeth never dealt with androids well. She was too poor to even really run into them when she was in high school and in the academy. When she got to the department, she mostly ignored them. There was nothing like a good human to work with, but the lieutenant said that human workers meant for human error. But that's what made humans, human. There was nothing like crying when someone broke your heart or killed your friend. To her, androids felt nothing. They couldn't care less about anyone or anything. This one was no better. The fake smile wouldn't get this android anywhere.
She laughed sarcastically. "You don't work for them, huh? Then why haven't they sold your ass for parts yet?" Elizabeth was cruel, but she was right. Android parts went for hundreds on the black market, and thousands in places where androids weren't allowed. The android didn't know it, but it worked for them. They didn't just have it around for no reason. It did the jobs nobody had time for. Even she knew that and she didn't work in the warehouse.
She glared at the android when it said its name. She didn't care. To Elizabeth, it was just a series of numbers and letters. It didn't have a name and didn't deserve to have a human name. People acted like androids were humans and equals. They weren't. "This piece of plastic is offering its help? I'd rather be homeless than get its help." Then the android's light changed. Working with police androids, she knew exactly what that light did. "That thing just scanned me! You let it do this to everyone?" She was starting to get pissed off.
